Manny Machado had two hits and was twice hit by pitches, and San Diego and St. Louis cleared the benches in the ninth inning Saturday night.

Cronenworth was hit by a pitch in the top of the second and reached first base with one out. He came around to score two batters later when Bryce Johnson hit a two-out single to center field, which resulted in a throwing error by Cardinals centerfielder Victor Scott II. Cronenworth crossed the plate and put the Padres up, 1-0.

Sitting behind on an 0-2 count with a runner on first base, Machado was plunked for the second time in the contest—this time by Andre Granillo. Naturally, the third baseman was none too pleased and, after staring the relief pitcher down, turned to the home plate umpire, telling him, "That's two! That's f— two!"
