Wildfires are burning close to homes in the Greek capital of Athens and on the island of Crete, fanned by strong winds and dry conditions. It comes as much of Europe swelters through another day of unseasonably warm conditions. Scientists say climate change is causing heatwaves to begin earlier in Europe, worsening fire seasons.

Blazes are burning in countries including Spain, Greece and Turkey in the wake of record-setting temperatures across much of the continent.
