The Oscar-winning director's Golden Globes weekend also included a Hollywood Hills screening and star-studded reception.

The Hamnet-inspired walking trail starts in Weobley, taking visitors through areas where it was filmed, across green fields and through country lanes, ending in Pembridge, another village famed for its black-and-white timber-framed buildings and which is a two hour walk away.

Writer/director Chloé Zhao drew on ancient storytelling traditions for the ending of “Hamnet,” the most emotionally overwhelming scene of the movie awards season. “Crying together goes back to the Greeks,” Zhao told me. “In every indigenous tradition, you come around the fire, and then the shaman would channel a story.”
Director Chloe Zhao’s earthy and sensuous film Hamnet is based on the book by Maggie O’ Farrell, who also co-wrote the screenplay. It not only foregrounds Shakespeare’s personal rather than professional life but does this by focusing chiefly on the experience of his previously maligned wife, Anne Hathaway (referred to as Agnes in the film).
In terms of the score, composer Max Richter says that when Will washes off the clay, “He just sort of breaks to pieces. This is the almost darkened version of this choral, vocal cloud, which we’ve had from the beginning, connected to Agnes and nature. But it’s almost like the cloud of a moonless night. So it’s kind of super dark.”
