Amid the ongoing uproar over the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu in Dhaka, Shafikul Islam, press secretary to Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, reassured that Hindus were “safe” in Bangladesh and there was no threat to the minorities in the country.

Earlier, General Secretary Of ISKCON Bangladesh Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari had said that the arrested monk had been removed from all positions due to breach of discipline. On this, the group clarified that Das was not an official member of the organisation and it did not attempt to distance itself from him.

Violence against Hindus in Bangladesh has escalated following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Hindu leader, has been arrested on sedition charges, sparking protests.
