President Donald Trump has removed Billy Long, the head of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and temporarily replaced him with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, The Associated Press and New York Times reported on Friday. Long announced on social media after the news broke that he will take on a new role as the U.S. ambassador to Iceland.

Billy Long, who was sworn in just under two months ago, was already the sixth person to hold the job this year. He told NBC News he will be the next U.S. ambassador to Iceland.

Critics argue that it's a distraction from the continuing anger from the MAGA base about the administration's refusal to release all Jeffrey Epstein files.
