Early-rising UK stargazers are in for a celestial treat on Friday as a lunar eclipse takes place just before dawn. But for those who have not managed to catch a glimpse yet, here is the view from LA as part of a livestream put out by Griffith Observatory.

Tonight a total lunar eclipse will sweep the Western Hemisphere as the sun, earth and moon align. Called the 'Blood Moon', the reddish hue will be visible without special glasses or a telescope. NBC's Emilie Ikeda visits the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey to learn more.
