Lakeland City Commission voted to exclude historic districts from their vote on height increases as they approved 55-foot-tall buildings on properties zoned for multi-family buildings.

Emily Foster, the city's senior planner for historic preservation, said Lakeland received a $50,000 grant from the state to hire a consultant to assist in revising its historic district design code.
