A June poll from Emerson College showed Harris losing her edge in a hypothetical 2028 Democratic presidential primary. The poll showed former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in the lead with 16% of support, while Harris closely trailed with 13% of support. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) clinched 12% of support in the recent poll.

The heavily watched decision by the former Democratic presidential candidate leaves open both her political future, as she's not ruling out a 2028 presidential bid, and the race to succeed Gavin Newsom.
