MARION COUNTY, W.V. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The flash flooding death toll has climbed to six in West Virginia. A state of emergency has been issued for parts of the state after heavy rains resulted in flash flooding over the weekend. Dozens of homes were affected by the flash flooding, including an estimated 29 homes which were destroyed.

Heavy rains and deadly, devastating flash flooding have prompted West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey to declare a state of emergency on Sunday.

The flooding then continued on June 15 in Marion County with up to 3 inches of rain recorded in the city of Fairmont, according to the governor's office. The Wheeling and nearby Triadelphia and Valley Grove areas were hit hardest.
