A winter storm is expected to bring significant snow and ice to Middle Tennessee the weekend of Jan. 23. Well-known meteorologist Jim Cantore noted the storm could be a rare event for Nashville. Cantore's arrival is widely recognized as a signal that significant weather impacts are expected.
The chance of snow is likely across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. While still too early for amounts, this could be a long-lived winter event with effects into next week. There is also a concern for freezing rain and sleet (ice) in southern counties.
A weak storm system will move into the region Wednesday, bringing our next chance for precipitation. Early morning flurries and brief snow showers are possible before the system transitions to mostly rain in the afternoon. It does not appear there will be any major travel issues at this time but stay with us on WSMV 4 for the latest updates.
