Senator Rick Scott of Florida is pushing to crack down on imports of Chinese garlic, claiming it poses a “major threat” to security and safety because it may be grown in human sewage and harvested with slave and child labor.

Fla., freshly reelected to a second term, is once again spotlighting something he thinks stinks: garlic from China. Scott said in a statement Tuesday he wants several different federal agencies to investigate garlic grown in China and imported into the United States.
