It’s said that the device builds on the PlayStation Portal, which was originally designed as something akin to this before moving to streaming.

Sony is currently making a new handheld gaming console that allows users to play PlayStation 5 games anywhere. According to Bloomberg, the console is being developed to compete against Nintendo and Microsoft in the portable gaming market, and is likely “years away from launch” — if Sony decides to release it at all.

Spurred from sales of its $199 PS Portal gaming handheld, Sony is reportedly working on a dedicated handheld device that will play PlayStation 5 games.

While the PlayStation Portal offered a way to play PS5 games remotely, it wasn’t a standalone handheld. In fact, it’s been about 14 years since the PS Vita appeared, and now, according to a report from Bloomberg,
