SEATTLE − The Yankees have announced the severity of Oswaldo Cabrera's ankle injury. The team says it's a left ankle fracture, and placed Cabrera on the 10-day injured list Tuesday afternoon. In turn, the Yankees returned veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list.

The Yankees are expected to activate veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu prior to Tuesday's game. If Cabrera's injury is as serious as it appears, LeMahieu will be able to slot into third base without much friction -- either from a starting lineup or active roster perspective. LeMahieu had missed the first month-plus of the season with a calf injury.

While the Yankees beat the Mariners 11-5 Monday night, the primary focus in the aftermath of the game was not on the score but on the status of infielder Oswaldo Cabrera.
