Highway speeds in Florida could be raised if a new bill passes through the Florida Legislature and makes it to the governor’s desk.

The legislation is part of an amendment filed by Sen. Nick DiCeglie and attached to the state Senate’s Transportation bill.

The county is also giving the city an Oct. 1 deadline to complete a feasibility and cost study for a tunnel. If Fort Lauderdale can’t make the deadline, the county wants the city to agree to a bridge.
