By Ailis Halligan in Tbilisi Nika Gvaramia, co-chair of the Ahali party and one of the leaders of the Georgian pro-Western opposition bloc Coalition for Change (C4C), was violently detained outside his party’s offices in Tbilisi around 5pm on December 4.

Georgian police have raided the offices of an opposition party and arrested its leader in an apparent attempt to squelch a wave of mass protests over the decision to suspend negotiations on joining the European Union.

Unrest continued for fourth straight night in Tbilisi following the Georgia government's decision to suspend talks about joining the European Union.
