Characters have different unlock methods in Mario Kart World. Some characters require you to win at a certain cup, whereas others are random unlocks from using the Kamek item in races. For the cups, you’ll need to play and complete the cup in the Grand Prix, it doesn’t matter if you place or not.

Mario Kart World has introduced one mechanic that I was personally surprised to see, and that’s Dash Food. These are snacks – lovingly crafted and handed out by Yoshis across the map – that you can consume while racing or free-roaming for a quick boost, and with some luck, a new costume for the character you’re playing.

It’s a testament to Mario Kart World’s quality that I’ve spent over 35 hours with it since launch less than a week ago, yet I still can’t wait to play more. The first brand-new Mario Kart in over a decade is a breath of fresh air,
