A lake-effect snowstorm that lasted for days walloped Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula as thousands of motorists took to the roads for some dicey travel over the Thanksgiving weekend. There were some eye-popping snowfall reports and even a snowfall record as communities worked to clear the large accumulation of snow.

Portions of northern and western Michigan will see an "active period of wintry weather" Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall totals varied due to the localized nature of lake-effect snow. In Gaylord, the four-day total since Thanksgiving reached 43.7 inches.
