The story I shared is an example of why the argument, “This is just a typical American making everything about race,” doesn’t hold up. I was with a group of Black women from all around the world, and despite our different backgrounds, our overall experiences were painfully similar. White people rarely have to think about the space they take up because they’re living in a world and within systems that were designed for them. It’s summertime, we all outside, I felt it was worth reminding people to
