Black Is the Color is a traditional Appalachian folk song of Scottish origin written sometime between 1916-1921. The original tune of “Black is the Color” was collected by English composer and folk song archivist Cecil Sharp. The tune that is best known today is that assigned to the traditional lyrics by John Jacob Niles. It’s believed the song started out life in Scotland, then made its way across the Atlantic Ocean and then came back with a new melody. I’ve chosen the words and melody that I t
